1945 - 1952 University and beginnings He graduated from law school in 1949 with a degree in International Law with the thesis “The Government of Fact” (supervisor Prof. Tomaso Perassi); publication was planned but unfortunately never completed. In 1947, having obtained a passport, he stayed in Paris and attended the Alliance Française; in 1949 he took part in a Sommerkurs in Heidelberg; in 1950 he attended the Academy of International Law in The Hague. In 1952 he married Giovanna Franzì Carlotti (1926-2014), who graduated in Social Work after attending the ENSISS School of Social Service in 1948 and graduated in Law from the State University of Rome in 1952 with a thesis in Criminal Law on “Non-imputability of minors under 14 years of age.” They have two children, Chiara Francesca (aka Clarissa) (1956 Newark, NJ-USA) and Alberto Maurizio (1958 Ankara, Turkey). Luigi Vittorio passed the diplomatic competition in January 1952 and was second in the rankings (both for the writings and the final result) out of eight admitted.

Christmas Concert Every year during the Christmas season, in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Italy/Vatican Foundation and to Amka Onlus, the Association promotes a benefit concert that aims to emotionally involve members, friends and acquaintances of the association. This event, usually held in the beautiful setting of the Church of Santa Maria dell'Anima, featuring the splendid voice of soprano Monica Marziota, is distinguished by its sacred music, capable of creating an atmosphere of sharing and solidarity. Instead of paying an entrance fee, participants are invited to make a donation, the proceeds of which go to projects that support our mission. In particular, monies raised are donated to youth initiatives always in line with our values related to international relations. This concert is a time of celebration and reflection, uniting people for a common cause and strengthening ties within the community.

Coraggio! Ethics and Artificial Intelligence Monday, 11 November, 2024 Six Senses Hotel - Rome Moderated by Marlis Morganti of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the event featured Tiziana Catarci, Director of the Department of Computer, Automatic and Management Engineering. The meeting was a unique opportunity to explore the topic of artificial intelligence, with an in-depth look at its risks and benefits. Tiziana Catarci offered stimulating insights and future perspectives on ethics in the use of technology, emphasizing the need for a conscious and responsible approach. Coraggio! is a series of meetings focused on cross-cutting issues of great relevance, involving a network of women ready to confront and support each other. We want awareness of women's value and courage not to remain an isolated event, but to radiate into society as a whole, so that gender distinction becomes secondary to the individual. Logo The Logo of this Association was created by Chiara Mensa , great-granddaughter of Luigi Vittorio Ferraris and daughter of Marina Petteruti Romano, one of the Founding Members and granddaughter of the Ambassador. The acquaintance between Chiara and Luigi Vittorio, albeit brief for reasons of age, shines through in the creation of a Logo that reflects in synthesis Luigi Vittorio's love of books, read and written, and his passion for Diplomacy to which the Ambassador sought to bring young students of all backgrounds closer, in respect and defense of human rights and collaboration among peoples. The supporting structure of the Logo encloses the three letters LVF of the Ambassador's name, and develops vertically and horizontally. Vertically with the interplay of the empty and full of the characters L and V, which give a glimpse into the L the shaft of a fountain pen, which is drawn in Vittorio's V. Pair of these two vertical letters contrasted with Ferraris's horizontally unfolding F to represent the openness to others manifested by the Ambassador in his character always open to human relations. Thus we have the vertical of diplomacy supporting the horizontal of society. That is, the strength of diplomatic action, expressed through treaties and written books of which the Ambassador has often been the author and co-author, in the cooperation acting at the international level to achieve good among Peoples. The round badge inscribing the Logo is surrounded by the inscription “Association of Friends of Luigi Vittorio Ferraris,” to represent a globe, as an expression of the international character of the thought and work carried out by the Professor and so dear to him. Finally, the colors red and white to recall the family banner kept in the country villa in Vaccarile in the Marche region of Italy. After a career in several design studios in England and Australia, she founded Hyphae, an independent design consultancy focused on eco-friendly visual design with a focus towards more sustainable and ethical products, activities and businesses, in the field of web. Since 2022, Chiara has decided to redirect her career to pursuing her true passion, establishing herself as an independent artist and specializing in creating prints through linoleum etching. 1928 - 1945 First years Grandson of Luigi Felice (1813-1900), Senator of the Kingdom of Italy and Count. Son of Luigi Angelo (1887-1966), politician and essayist, and Maria Croce (1863-1985), a family originally from Sostegno (Biella). Luigi Vittorio spent his childhood and adolescence between Rome (until 1937), Turin (1937-1945) and Vaccarile, the family estate that represented a peaceful oasis all his life and that he always considered his true home, being deeply tied to this land. From childhood, thanks to his parents' initiative, he learned German and French. During Gymnasium he learned English and Russian. Over the years he nurtured his passion for other cultures, also learning Romanian, Spanish, Turkish, Polish, and Bulgarian, and he also approached Dutch and Finnish. In 1945, he was exempted from attending his final year of high school and then from taking the baccalaureate exam, thus earning his high school diploma at the age of 17.

Pizza and Politics Defamation and misinformation in U.S. presidential campaigns Monday, 18 November, 2024 Caffè delle Esposizioni - Rome On November 18, 2024, the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Friends of Luigi Vittorio Ferraris Association, with the collaboration of the Festival of Diplomacy, organized a meeting with Prof. Luca Mencacci entitled “Beyond the Election Verdict: Dirty Politics and the Dynamics of Political Communication.” Prof. Mencacci, starting with the book Dirty Politics (2024, Rubbettino), guided us through an in-depth analysis of the dynamics of political communication that have influenced all U.S. election campaigns.

2000 - 2018 The University Career From 1988 to 2000 Luigi Vittorio taught International Relations at LUISS, where also thanks to the contribution of some of his students he succeeded in putting together a “Handbook of Italian Foreign Policy” [Bari-Rome, Laterza, 1995 and later reprint], which is judged a reference work cited in many studies on Italian foreign policy. He simultaneously teaches at the University of Trieste (Gorizia Pole) in the degree courses in “Diplomatic and International Sciences” (which he, together with Prof. Paola Pagnini, helped initiate) and in “International Relations and Strategic Studies” until 2002. He taught International Relations both at the University of Roma Tre from 2001 until 2008 and at the University of Valle d'Aosta from 2007 to 2011 (here he was also a member of the Technical Committee for the establishment of the Faculty of Political and International Sciences). He collaborated for two years with the chair of “History of Eastern Europe” at “Sapienza” in Rome. During the same years he was constantly invited to give seminars and lectures at the Universities of Florence, Macerata, Perugia, Turin, Pavia, Milan, Naples, Messina, and Urbino, also at the School of Journalism, Scuola Normale and Scuola Sant'Anna in Pisa. In his university activities he was highly esteemed by his colleagues and was much followed by his students, with many of whom deep human relationships were also born, which lasted even beyond his university career. After all, as thesis supervisor or co-rapporteur, Luigi Vittorio can count more than 700 projects, many of which are preserved at the Italian Society for International Organization (SIOI), LUISS and Roma Tre. He also maintains university contacts in Germany, obtaining teaching positions in Jena and Dresden between 1990 and 1993 with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. Between 1987 and 2018, there are numerous invitations to speak at Conventions and Conferences, including in Germany, thanks to the prestige gained as an Ambassador. Essays and articles include more than 400 titles, published in various Journals and newspapers, including Il Messaggero, L'Indipendente and Italia Oggi. Mention should also be made of his decisive action in establishing the Italian-German Center for European Excellence, located at Villa Vigoni in Loveno di Menaggio (Como), of which he was president from 1986 until 2002. He also served as Vice President of the “Centro Alti Studi Europei” in Urbino in 1992 , Vice President (1994) and later President (2000 - 2007) of both the Circolo di Studi Diplomatici in Rome and the CISCI (Centro italiano di Studi per la Conciliazione Comitato); also served on the Steering Committee of the “Daedalos Institute of Geopolitics” in Paris-Nicosia (2004 - 2007); was Advisor to the European Academy in Nicosia; was a member of the Goethe Prize Committee of the Toepfer Stiftung in Hamburg (2001 - 2011); was Coordinator of the Scientific Committee of the “University for the Elderly” and then “Free University for Adults” in Senigallia (since 1997). On May 4, 1988 he was awarded an Honorary Degree in Law by Bielefeld University at the proposal of Professor Grunsky. He received on October 27, 1990, the “Witnesses of Time” award as part of the Acqui Storia prize for his book on Germany and in April 2002 the Silver Medal of Merit in Culture. On July 14, 2002, he was awarded honorary citizenship of Ostra (Ancona), the municipality where Vaccarile's family home is located. The funeral was celebrated on November 16, 2018 at the Church of St. Peter the Apostle in Vaccarile. Present at the funeral were the family and a large participating and moved crowd of friends, acquaintances and admirers both local and from many cities such as Rome, Custoza, Gorizia and Trieste. He rests at Turin's Monumental Cemetery in the family tomb next to his beloved wife Giovanna.
