1963 - 1967 The Venezuelan Period In 1963, the then Deputy Director General of Personnel, Girolamo Pignatti Morano di Custoza, proposed that Luigi Vittorio follow him to Caracas as his deputy. Luigi Vittorio arrived in Caracas at a historical-political moment when crime, urban guerrilla warfare, and bombings were the order of the day. Luigi Vittorio fitted very well into the Venezuelan context, not only professionally but also personally. Many travels, from the Orinoco to the Amacuro Delta to the Andes-Merida; Luigi Vittorio attended the Universitad Central in anonymity and collected documentation on guerrilla warfare, which in 1968 he would collect in a publication brought out with the collaboration of prof. Emilio Peruzzi: “Guerrilla Warfare and Politics: The Example of Venezuela (1962-1969)” (ed Valmartina, Florence - under the pseudonym Luigi Valsalice), a volume that would be translated into Spanish and that would be highly praised by President Betancourt, Rangel and Petkov (“the best book on the guerrilla period”). As a diplomat, Luigi Vittorio was highly regarded in Caracas where he was called the “best connoisseur of Venezuelan politics.” On June 17, 1967,he was transferred to Warsaw, where he intensified his diplomatic network partly due to the familiarity he obtained in the Polish language, which he would maintain throughout his life, so much so that even in old age he loved to read newspapers in the original language.

  • Pace e Futuro | Assoc. Amici LVF

Pace e Futuro Young people and the Helsinki Treaties The Associazione Amici di Luigi Vittorio Ferraris is carrying out a project in honor of the ambassador, commemorating the anniversary of his passing each year through initiatives that actualize the themes he explored throughout his career and life by involving young people. In connection with one of the key issues he worked on during his diplomatic career, the association decided to organize conferences and seminars on the Helsinki Treaties, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the peace agreement. Among the initiatives was the reprinting of the book edited by Luigi Vittorio Ferraris in 1975, “Testimonies of a Negotiation. Helsinki-Geneva-Helsinki 1972-1975r,” published by TAB editions (the publisher, Laura Moudarres is also one of our members!), with an introduction by Professor Luca Micheletta, a leading expert on international relations and a respected friend of the ambassador. This project is carried out in collaboration with the Hanns Sidel Italy Vatican Foundation and others, such as Villa Nazareth, which has benefited from the dedication of Ambassador Ferraris and the guidance of Cardinal Silvestrini, who are committed to jointly promoting the Helsinki peace processes. This year, on the occasion of the anniversary, a lectio is planned around the theme “Peace for the New Generations,” to continue to reflect and discuss issues of great relevance that span past, present and future.

Coraggio! Women and Diplomacy in the Sahel: What Future for the EU-Africa Partnership? Friday, June 7, 2024 Spazio Sette Bookstore - Rome On June 7, 2024, an important meeting organized by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Associazione Amici di Luigi Vittorio Ferraris, as part of the cycle Coraggio! was held at the Spazio Sette bookstore in Rome. The event, entitled Women and Diplomacy in the Sahel: What Future for the EU-Africa Partnership?, was attended by Professor Emanuela Del Re , EU Special Representative for the Sahel and former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The meeting offered an in-depth analysis of the complex reality of the Sahel, a region that stretches between Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger. The central role that Europe has played for years in this vast area was discussed, with economic, social, political and military initiatives aimed at consolidating cooperation and promoting development. However, it emerged how Europe faces significant challenges today in an increasingly critical context, especially for girls and women in the region. Indeed, flight, poverty, and discrimination are seriously affecting the future prospects of adolescent girls in Mali and Burkina Faso. Under the moderation of Elisabetta Grassia, Technical Assistant on EU-Africa programs and AALVF member, Professor Del Re offered an expert and personal look at the topics discussed, emphasizing the urgency of strengthening the partnership between the European Union and Africa to address the most pressing issues, including women's empowerment, security and sustainable development. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to reflect not only on the problems of the present, but also on the possibilities of building a more equitable and inclusive future for Sahel communities, especially for young women who face the toughest challenges. Coraggio! Women fleeing the war Monday, 14 March, 2022 Rooftoop of Palazzo Navona - Rome On Monday, March 14, 2022, the first meeting of Coraggio!, the format organized by the Associazione Amici di Luigi Vittorio Ferraris and the Hanns Seidel Foundation, was held at the Terrace of Palazzo Navona. During the event, in collaboration with the Community of Sant'Egidio, the latter's extraordinary work in welcoming women and children fleeing war, both in Italy and at the Polish-Ukrainian border, was presented. Evelina Martelli , head of the Community of Sant'Egidio's BRAVO! program, illustrated the network's commitment to offering concrete support and hope to those who have lost everything. A few days ago “International Women's Day” was celebrated, a moment that took on a profoundly different meaning this year. Everyone's thoughts went out to those suffering from war, forced to leave their homes, loved ones and lives. On this occasion, the need to build strong connections and support networks was emphasized, not only to help those in need today, but also to create a more supportive and resilient future.
